About Gatwick Airport
Gatwick sits roughly 28 miles south of London, beside the M23 at junction 9 and close to the A23 Brighton road. It has two terminals, North and South, connected by a free shuttle, and ranks among the capital's main airports.
Outside peak hours the drive into central London is normally about an hour and a quarter; heavy traffic through south London can push it towards two hours. A chauffeur is well suited to guests travelling on to Sussex, Surrey, Kent or the south coast, to families with cases, and to anyone whose flight lands late.
Guests from Gatwick often travel to central or south London, to Brighton and the Sussex coast, into Kent, or to Surrey towns including Reigate and Guildford.

Getting from LGW to London
For London, your chauffeur takes the M23 north and continues on the A23 via Croydon and south London; trips elsewhere often use the M25 instead. The airport is only about 28 miles out, yet the stretch through south London tends to be the slowest, which is why the time of day makes such a difference.
Every train departs from the South Terminal station, so North Terminal arrivals first ride the free shuttle, which takes about two minutes. Gatwick Express reaches London Victoria non-stop in roughly 30 minutes, with two departures an hour. Southern trains also run to Victoria and Clapham Junction, while Thameslink calls at St Pancras International and Farringdon, then City Thameslink, Blackfriars and London Bridge. There are coaches to Victoria too.
With light bags and a hotel close to Victoria or a Thameslink stop, rail works very well. A car is more straightforward with children, heavy luggage, a group, a late-evening landing, or a destination in Sussex, Surrey or Kent that sits away from the main lines.
Arrival tips
- North and South are separate terminals linked by a shuttle, so check which one you arrive at. The meeting point in your confirmation matches that terminal.
- You will not need the shuttle or the car park: your chauffeur is in the arrivals hall holding a name board.
- How long immigration and baggage take depends on the hour and on how many aircraft arrive at once. We monitor your flight, and your 60 minutes of free waiting counts from the real landing time.
- Held up at the carousel or at passport control? Use the phone number in your confirmation to call or message your chauffeur.
- Child seats cost nothing if you ask for them at booking, and the fare already includes airport parking charges.
LGW transfer questions
Is my Gatwick flight North or South Terminal?
The North Terminal handles easyJet, Emirates and Qatar Airways. British Airways, Jet2, Ryanair and Wizz Air are in the South Terminal. TUI flights can use either, depending on the flight number, so look at your booking.
What is a realistic journey time from Gatwick to central London?
London is about 28 miles north. Expect around an hour and a quarter when roads are quiet, and as much as two hours when traffic is heavy.
Where will my chauffeur be waiting at Gatwick?
Inside the arrivals hall of your terminal, with a name board. You will find the meeting point, plus the chauffeur's name and phone number, in your confirmation.
What if my Gatwick arrival is delayed?
Your flight is tracked, so the collection time follows your real arrival. You have 60 minutes of free waiting, beginning once the aircraft has landed.
Will I pay extra for parking or child seats at Gatwick?
No. The price is fixed per vehicle when you book and already includes airport parking charges, and child seats are free on request.
