About London City Airport
Tucked into the Royal Docks, London City is a compact airport with one terminal, handling mostly short-haul and business routes within Europe. The City of London is around six miles to the west, and Canary Wharf is close by.
Off-peak, you can usually reach the City by car in 25 to 35 minutes; at rush hour it may take up to an hour. A chauffeur is a natural fit for executives heading directly to a meeting or hotel, for journeys to west London or further afield, and for anyone carrying more luggage than is comfortable on the DLR.
Guests from London City most often head to Canary Wharf, the City, the West End or central London hotels, and occasionally to Kent or Essex.

Getting from LCY to London
Approaching from the west, cars use Connaught Bridge; from the east, the way in is Redgrave Bridge and Albert Road. Canary Wharf and the City are close, although morning and evening traffic on the main routes into the City can be heavy.
The airport has a DLR station of its own, served every 4 to 10 minutes according to destination, and Bank is roughly 21 minutes away. Elsewhere on the network the DLR links with the Underground, London Overground and the Elizabeth line.
If you are on your own with only hand luggage and bound for Canary Wharf or the City, the DLR is quick. For families, groups, bigger cases, trips to west London and beyond, or an evening arrival when you would like to be taken straight to the door, a car is the better fit.
Arrival tips
- The airport is small, so it is a short walk from the aircraft to arrivals, and with hand luggage only you are often out quickly.
- Your chauffeur waits with a name board in the arrivals hall, and your confirmation sets out the precise meeting point.
- Flight tracking means a late departure does not eat into your time: the 60 minutes of free waiting begins only when the aircraft lands.
- If passport control holds you up, ring your chauffeur on the number in your confirmation, which also gives their name.
- Airport parking charges are part of the fare, and we provide child seats free when requested.
