STN Airport Transfers: Stansted Airport

Private car from Stansted to anywhere in London and beyond. Fixed price before you fly, flight tracking and meet & greet in arrivals.

About Stansted Airport

Set in Essex, just off the M11, Stansted is some 35 to 40 miles from central London, which lies to the south-west. It operates from one terminal and is known chiefly for low-cost European flights, with Ryanair the biggest airline there.

Expect about an hour and a quarter to central London when traffic is light, and closer to two hours in the rush hour. A chauffeur-driven car works well for journeys to Cambridge, Hertfordshire, Essex, or north and east London, for families with cases, and for very early or late flights.

Guests from Stansted usually travel to central, north or east London, to Cambridge or Chelmsford, or to towns in Hertfordshire and Essex.

Getting from STN to London

Leaving the airport, your chauffeur heads south on the M11, then either picks up the North Circular or carries on into east London. Arriving from London, the turn-off is junction 8a. Journey time depends on M11 traffic and on the roads into the city, so allow extra during peak periods.

Directly beneath the terminal is the railway station. Stansted Express departs every 15 minutes and takes roughly 48 minutes to Liverpool Street, or around 36 minutes to Tottenham Hale, where you can change for the Victoria line. Contactless payment is accepted on these services, but Oyster is not. Coaches also link the airport with London.

If your hotel is close to Liverpool Street, the train is a sound option. With children or several bags, as a group, for a destination away from the railway, or when you land after the last train, a car is the more practical route home.

Arrival tips

  1. There is only one terminal, so after baggage reclaim you walk straight into arrivals, where your chauffeur is waiting with a name board.
  2. When several European flights arrive together, the passport queues can grow. We keep track of your flight; 60 minutes of free waiting is counted from the moment it lands.
  3. The confirmation shows the meeting point along with your chauffeur's name and phone number, so you can let them know if anything slows you down.
  4. Travelling with young children? Request child seats when you book and they are supplied free.
  5. Nothing is payable at the airport, as airport parking charges are part of the fare.

STN transfer questions

Does Stansted have more than one terminal?

No. All airlines, Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2 and Emirates among them, share a single passenger terminal.

How far is Stansted from central London by car?

It is some 35 to 40 miles, mainly on the M11. Plan on roughly an hour and a quarter outside peak times, rising to around two hours when traffic is heavy.

Where do I find my chauffeur at Stansted?

Once you have collected your bags, look for your name board in the arrivals area. The meeting point, the chauffeur's name and a phone number are all in your confirmation.

Will my chauffeur wait if my flight is late?

Yes. We follow your flight, so the collection is timed to your actual arrival, and 60 minutes of free waiting applies from the time the aircraft lands.

Should I take the Stansted Express or book a car?

A solo traveller heading for Liverpool Street will find the train quick. Families, groups and anyone with heavy bags often prefer a fixed price per vehicle and a ride that goes door to door.
